"By day's end it was clear that the Desert Classic Concours d'Elegance may well be destined to lie amongst the greats as a premier automotive event."
Rory Jurnecka, Motor Trend Magazine
The inaugural Desert Classic Concours d'Elegance, held March 1, 2008 on the lush grounds and manicured fairways of the exclusive O'Donnell Golf Club in the heart of Palm Springs, continues the tradition that Palm Springs has long held with exotic automobiles, including the first road race in Southern California in 1950. Considered the Golden Era of road racing, these were unparalleled social events, with racers and spectators enjoying the nightlife offered by the legendary clubs and hotels of Palm Springs.
"Our event will focus attention on the unique history Palm Springs has
in relation to these historically significant cars, as well as the
celebrities and drivers that made them famous."
Paul Merrigan, Event Founder
Each year, the invited automobiles will be among the most significant expressions of innovative engineering, beautiful design, quality construction and finish, performance accomplishment and historical importance. The cars will be displayed so that spectators may learn about the history and significance of these wonderful vehicles.
Held annually, the first weekend in March, The Desert Classic Concours d’Elegance is a recognized 501(c) (3), non-profit corporation. Proceeds from the event will benefit several local charitable organizations renowned for their efforts to improve the quality of life in our community.
"The Desert Classic Concours d'Elegance was an overwhelming
success and the setting is incomparable. I hope to see many of you there
next March 1st for the second edition. I won't have long to chat, because I
want to see each and every entry."
Michael T. Lynch, noted automotive historian
