We are inviting and will be displaying many rarely displayed or seen, great classics, which have been winners of major Concours and race events over the past years. There will also be some newly found and restored classics, which have not been displayed before. Cars, which have been winners at Pebble Beach, Villa d’Este, Amelia Island and elsewhere may be seen

Corvette Legend Dick Guldstrand won championships and fame racing and building Corvettes from the Grand Sport, for Roger Penske to his own fabulous Guldstrand GS 90, will be here once again as a judge and honoree.

Enthusiastic support and participation of the Los Angeles Peterson Museum and the Checkered Flag 200 Club will assure the presence of some of the greatest classics in the world.

Unfortunately, when met with the Westin to finalize arrangements for the 2013 event we discovered that 0000 0000000 0000 Magazine and the city of Rancho Mirage have announced to many of you and the Westin Hotel that they are now the Desert Concours and will hold the event on our previously announced date and location (Feb. 24, 2013). This group has also proclaimed to all that “the Merrigans are no longer involved”. UNTRUE. This is our event and we will continue to produce it.

However, for the moment and very late in the game, we have no venue for the 2013 event. We are still working to put it all together and will keep you updated. Many of you have been here every year for five years and have found the Desert Classic Concours to be a worthwhile event. We would appreciate your suggestions and feedback.

“The Desert Classic Concours d’Elegance will be the first major car event of the year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500,” said founder Paul Merrigan. “In its honor, we will display many of the significant cars that have participated in ‘The greatest spectacle in racing’ over the past century.”

Given the enthusiastic response to its previous events, the Desert Classic has initiated two days of classic car racing with the inaugural Historic Races at the new Chuckwalla Valley Raceway located east of La Quinta. Desert Classic SPEED WEEK begins February 19 and 20. The Concours d’Elegance pre-event will be conducted in partnership with the Vintage Auto Racing Association (VARA), the largest vintage racing organization in the country dedicated to the preservation of historic and classic race cars. Cars raced during the Desert Classic Races will be on display at the Concours’ main event.

Among the many other exciting events scheduled is the Desert Classic Tour, held the day before the Concours d’Elegance. Spectators will be invited to view more than 75 spectacular vintage automobiles as they gather for a road tour on picturesque Main Street in Old Town La Quinta, an event that is open to the public.

The extraordinary and historic cars, summer-like weather in mid-winter and the spectacular setting at the legendary La Quinta Resort & Club has brought praise and recognition to the Desert Classic Concours d’Elegance from Motor Trend, Auto Week, Hemmings, and many more, distinguishing it among classic car shows in California and around the world.
